
Spartans Sweep SSC Player of the Week Honors
Keven Pimentel and Nick DeTringo earn SSC pitcher and player of the week honors.
MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Tampa's baseball team swept the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week honors, as the league office announced its list of weekly award winners.
Nick DeTringo is named Player of the Week after leading Tampa to four wins, including a 3-0 sweep of No. 10 Saint Leo University. The Ruskin, Florida product went 6-for-10 from the box with three doubles in three games against the Lions. DeTringo tallied three RBIs and nine total bases in the series. His top performance of the week was the opener against Saint Leo where he went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. DeTringo also had a hit in three at-bats in Tampa's victory over the University of Bridgeport. The junior finished the week with a .538/.571/.769 slash line as the Spartans move to 19-5 overall and 8-1 in SSC play.
Keven Pimentel earns his second Pitcher of the Week honor of the year following seven shutout innings against No. 10 Saint Leo University. The Huntington Station, New York native, retired 21 of the 26 batters he faced, giving up just three hits and two walks. The Junior hurler struck out nine and held opponents to a .125 batting average in the victory. The Spartans have won their last four contests and now sit at 19-5 overall and 8-1 in SSC play.
