Tampa Dominates First Game of Weekend Series

Tampa, Fla. – The University of Tampa baseball team won the first game of the weekend series against Post University.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Records: Tampa Spartans (2-2, 0-0 SSC), Post Eagles (0-1, 0-0 CACC)

All-time Series: Tonight was the first matchup between the two programs. The Spartans now lead 1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

·       Luke McDonald was the first Spartan to reach base with a walk. Behind him, John Pichman doubled to bring in McDonald, and Dan Sullivan singled to right center to bring in Pichman. || Bot. 1 || 2-0 Tampa

·       With Sullivan on first base from a walk, Josh Rulli stepped to the plate and hit a huge homerun, driving in two RBIs. || Bot. 4 || Tampa 4-1

·       An error by Post  led to Luke Benoit reaching first base, and a double by Mikey Navarrete advanced him to third. Jose Cadenas tripled, bringing in both runners. || Bot. 4 || Tampa 6-1

·       With only one out on the board, Cadenas rounded in a run that was possible due to a sacrifice fly by Drew Ehrhard. || Bot. 4 || Tampa 7-1

·       Starting pitcher, Brandon Knarr pitched six innings, throwing eight strikeouts, and only allowing one run. || Top 7 || Tampa 7-1

·       With Mauro Conde and Sullivan on bases, Rulli singled to record his third RBI of the night, bringing in Conde. || Bot. 7 || Tampa 8-1

·       Benoit appeared at the plate with one out up and singled to left field that scored in Sullivan. || Bot. 7 || Tampa 9-1

·       Cadenas was the first batter up in the eighth. He reached on an error and stole second. Behind him, Ehrhard singled and grabbed an RBI that allowed for Cadenas to score the last run of the game. || Bot. 8 || 10-3 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS:

·       Josh Rulli went 2-for-4 with two hits, one being a homerun and three RBIs.

·       Luke Benoit and Mikey Navarrete also went 2-for-4 with one run for the both of them.

·       Starting pitcher Brandon Knarr had eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched.

·       Jose Cadenas and Dan Sullivan both scored two runs each.
