Spartans Baseball Cannot Complete Comeback As They Fall to Seton Hill

Tampa, Fla. – The University of Tampa baseball team dropped a close game to Seton Hill University as the Spartans comeback fell short.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Final: Seton Hill Griffins 5, No. 4 Tampa Spartans 4

Records: Tampa (11-6), Seton Hill (7-2)

Location: UT Baseball Field | Tampa, Fla.

All-time Series: Tampa still leads in the all-time series between the two ball clubs with the record sitting at 7-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

· The Spartans held the Griffins scoreless through the first two innings, but were unable to carry the same success into the third inning as Seton Hill posted three runs in the top half.

· Tampa was able to get a run across after freshman J.D. Urso drove in Luke Benoit, who singled earlier in the inning. || Bot. 5 || 4-1 SHU

· After allowing another run in the top of the sixth, Tampa cut the lead to 5-3 after a two-run Jose Cadenas homerun. || Bot. 7 || 5-3 SHU

· After a leadoff double to right field, Nick Derr would round the bases and score on a Griffins wild pitch, narrowing the lead to just one and giving the Spartans a late glimpse of hope. || Bot. 8 || 5-4 SHU

· Despite scoring the inning before, the Tampa comeback effort fell short as they were unable to manufacture any runs in the bottom of the ninth.

INSIDE THE STATS:

· Benoit finished the night 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

· Cadenas hit his sixth HR of the season, recording 2 RBI.

· Nik Constantakos recorded seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings of relief work.

OUTSIDE THE BOX:

· The last time the Spartans dropped consecutive games dates back to last season when the Spartans lost the series against #29 Eckerd on May 4, 2019.

UP NEXT:

Tampa will head to Albany, Georgia this weekend to faceoff against the Golden Rams of Albany State in a three game series. The first pitch of the series is set for 6 p.m., Friday night.
