Pitching Propels Tampa to Series Win Over Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. – The No. 6 University of Tampa baseball team took the rubber game of a series at South Region foe Albany State University with a 3-0 shutout over the Golden Rams.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

All-time Series: Tampa owns a 15-3 advantage in the all-time series, and are winners of six of the last seven meetings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Spartans crossed the first run of the afternoon when Jose Cadenas reached base via a walk and later scored on an RBI by Drew Ehrhard. || Top 3 || UT 1-0
• An insurance run was added when John Pichman drove home Nick Derr on a sacrifice fly after Derr reached base with a one out single. || Top 7 || UT 2-0
• Ehrhard singled home Cadenas with a hit to rightfield after the Spartan centerfielder reached on a hit by pitch. || Top 8 || UT 3-0

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Michael Paul started for the Spartans and moved to 1-0 after 6.0 shutout innings. He allowed four hits while striking out four Golden Rams hitters.
• Jordan Leasure added a pair of shutout innings with a strikeout.
• The save went to Bo Weiss as the senior tossed a perfect ninth with a strikeout to notch his first save of the year.
• Luke McDonald collected a team-leading three hits.
• Ehrhard, Derr and Pichman each had multiple hits with two apiece.

OUTSIDE THE BOX:

• The Spartans have now won all five series of the 2020 season.
• This was the third consecutive game three start for Paul, who has now thrown 13.2 innings without an earned run in his three starts this season.

UP NEXT:

Upon returning home to Tampa, the Spartans have a pair of non-conference contests at home on Monday and Tuesday versus Bridgeport and Northwood (Mich.). Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m., at the UT Baseball Field.
