Spartans Tabbed No. 1 in Preseason Coaches Poll
TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Tampa baseball team will open its 2021 season as the top team in the nation, according to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper preseason NCAA Division II poll.
Head coach Joe Urso's program captured the last national championship, coming. in 2019 before Covid-19 forced an early cancelation to the 2020 campaign.
Last season, UT was 15-7 when the season came to an abrupt end. Tampa was also atop the Sunshine State Conference with a 4-2 league record.
The eight-time national champions have now been ranked for 239 consecutive releases, marking the nation's longest current streak. Tampa was No. 10 in the final poll of 2020, and has held steady in the top-10 for every week since 2016.
