
Spartans Stomp Sailfish To Sweep Doubleheader
WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. – The No. 1 ranked University of Tampa baseball team swept a doubleheader against Sunshine State Conference opponent Palm Beach Atlantic University.

HOW IT HAPPENED — GAME ONE:
- E.J. Cumbo scored (unearned), Nicholas Winkelmeyer scored off a Drew Ehrhard single. | 2-0 Tampa
- Luke McDonald hit a double to score Nick Derr, John Malcom, Jamarcus Lyons that continued a first inning breakout. | 5-0 Tampa
- The Sailfish score on a first-inning sacrifice fly. | 5-1 Tampa
- Malcolm got things started in the second with a two RBI double that scored Lyons and Ehrhard. | Tampa 7-1
- Cumbo piled on, hitting a two RBI single. Winkelmeyer scored, unearned, J.D. Urso scored. | 9-1 Tampa
- The Sailfish scored the games only fourth inning run via sacrifice fly. | 9-2 Tampa
- Tampa scored eight runs in the fifth inning: Jose Cadenas on a Ehrhard walk (10-2); Winkelmeyer via a Sailfish wild pitch (11-2); Cumbo scored from the Malcom walk (12-2); Ehrhard scored after Derr was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded (13-2); McDonald walked and scored Lyons (14-2); Malcom made it home off the Urso single (15-2); Derr from the Winkelmeyer ground out (16-2); McDonald on another wild pitch (17-2). | Tampa 17-2

- John Malcom singled to second base to score Cumbo. | 2-0 Tampa
- The sailfish answered right away in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs to tie the game. | 2-2 Tied
- The Spartans created some space, scoring three runs in the second: Jose Cadenas from a Winkelmeyer single (3-2); Winkelmeyer again scored from the Drew Ehrhard sac-fly (4-2); Cumbo scores once more via the Jamarcus Lyons double (5-2) | Tampa 5-2
- Mikey Navarrete had a bases loaded walk that scored Malcom in the top of the fifth inning. | Tampa 6-2
- Cadenas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that scored Dan Sullivan. | Tampa 7-2
- Sullivan doubled to right field, scoring Ehrhard in the sixth inning. | Tampa 8-2

- Luke McDonald had a monster game one, hitting a double with four RBI's and three walks.
- UT had five players register two or more RBI's: McDonald (4), John Malcom (3), E.J. Cumbo (2), Drew Ehrhard (2), and Nicholas Winkelmeyer (2).
- Nick Derr and J.D. Urso also registered an RBI, giving Tampa seven players to log RBI's in the game.
- Urso, Dan Sullivan, and Winkelmeyer were ever efficient at the plate, hitting 3-for-4, 2-for-2, and 2-for-3, respectively.
- UT batters walked more times (13) than they struck out (8).
- 16 of the Spartans 18 hits scored runs.

- Right-handed pitcher Braydon Nelson earned his first win of the season.

- Nicholas Winkelmeyer was again strong in the second showing, hitting 2-for-4 with an RBI and walk and no strikeouts.
- Drew Ehrhard and Mikey Navarrete both recorded two RBI's apiece in the second game.
- UT scored 11 runs on 11 hits.
- Nine Spartans collected RBI's on the game: Ehrhard (2), Navarette (2), Winkelmeyer, E.J. Cumbo, Jamarcus Lyons, John Malcom, Dan Sullivan, J.D. Urso, Jose Cadenas each had one.
- UT hit five doubles in the game.
- Eric Linder struck out six Sailfish in six innings for his first win of the season.
- Jordan Leasure was perfect in relief, striking out one in the seventh with no hits, runs, or walks allowed.
