Tampa Outpunches the Fighting Knights

BOCA RATON, Fla. –  The No. 2 ranked University of Tampa Spartans baseball team beat the Lynn University Fighting Knights, improving their record to 10-2 on the season. They are 9-1 in their last 10 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Tampa's bats started off hot with two jacks by E.J. Cumbo, which scored Nicholas Winkelmeyer, and John Malcom, who scored Drew Ehrhard in the first inning. | 4-0 Tampa
• Jose Cadenas kept the homers flying, piling on in the top of the second with a solo shot. | 5-0 Tampa
• Luke McDonald decided to join the power party, knocking a double to center field to score Jamarcus Lyons. | 6-0 Tampa
• Lynn answered back in the bottom of the third to cut Tampa's lead to four. | 6-2 Tampa
• Tampa added two runs in the top of the fifth on a J.D. Urso sac-fly, scoring Malcom, and a McDonald single that brought Nick Derr home. | 8-2 Tampa
• Derr hit a sac-fly of his own in the top of the sixth, scoring Lyons. | 9-2 Tampa
• J.D. Urso ripped a double to left center, scoring Malcom. | 10-2 Tampa
• McDonald added a third run in the top of the sixth on a right field single that led Urso home. | 11-2 Tampa
• Lynn added another run in the bottom of the ninth. | 11-3 Tampa

INSIDE THE STATS:

• E.J. Cumbo had a big game, jacking a homerun, hitting 3-for-5 and two RBIs.
• John Malcom's monster season continues with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate, including a homerun, and two RBIs.
• Jose Cadenas also homered.
• Luke McDonald also had a strong day at the plate, hitting 3-for-5 with a team-leading three RBI.
• J.D. Urso added another multi-RBI game.
