Los Angeles Dodgers Select UT Pitcher Jordan Leasure
TAMPA, Fla. - University of Tampa baseball standout Jordan Leasure was selected by the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the 14th round of the 2021 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft. Leasure was chosen with the 432nd selection of the annual draft.
Leasure is the 101st player in program history to have his name called, including the 74th since the Joe Urso era began in 2001. Additionally, UT has had at least one player selected in 18 consecutive full MLB Drafts. The Spartans did not have a player selected in the Covid-19 shortened 2020 Draft, which only included five rounds.
A four-year letterwinner for the Spartans, Leasure is coming off a 2021 season where he boasted the top ERA in the nation at 0.94. He was also tops in the NCAA Division II ranks with a 0.60 WHIP. In 38.1 innings of work, the All-American and Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Year had 60 strikeouts for the SSC champs and national semifinalist.
Since enrolling at UT as a freshman in 2016, Leasure has compiled a 9-4 record with eight saves for the Spartans. Carrying a career ERA of 3.04, he registered 165 strikeouts in 124.1 innings of work.
Leasure departs UT as the program leader in most strikeouts per 9 innings (11.94), while ranking second in lowest batting average (.210).
