
E.J. Cumbo Recipient of SSC Player of Week Honor
MELBOURNE, Fla. - University of Tampa baseball standout E.J. Cumbo has been named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, after leading the Spartans to a perfect 5-0 week with victories over ranked opponents in four of the games.
Cumbo collects Player of the Week after slashing .529/.600/.765 as the Spartans went 4-0 last week against Top-10 teams. The sophomore from East Meadow, New York, went 9-for-17 at the plate, with a home run, double, six runs scored, eight runs batted in, two walks, and was hit by a pitch. In a 9-2 win against No. 10 Seton Hill, Cumbo went 1-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. In a three-game set at No. 1 Nova Southeastern, the outfielder recorded multiple hits and at least one run scored in each game. Defensively, Cumbo had 10 putouts in 10 chances. The weekly award is the second of his career.
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of March 7 - 13, 2022. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.
