
No. 2 Spartans Begin Final Regular-Season Series With Offensive Onslaught
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The No. 2 University of Tampa baseball team cruised to a 16-2 victory in the opening game of a series at Eckerd College.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Spartans came out of the gates strong with a 5-run first inning. J.D. Urso and Jordan Lala each had RBI singles. | Top 1: 5-0 Tampa
- Eckerd scored one in the first and another in the second, as the Spartans would strike for four more runs in the fifth. Anthony Nunez had a two-run single while Drew Ehrhard had an RBI single. | Top 5: 9-2 Tampa
- Another big inning netted UT five runs in the eighth. Nunez, Lala and Macallister Jorgensen each had an RBI single as two runs crossed on Eckerd wild pitches. | Top 8: 14-2 Tampa
- Tampa loaded the bases in the ninth and scored a pair of runs. The Spartans would throw a scoreless ninth to seal the victory. | Final Score: 16-2 Tampa
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Lala led the Spartans with four hits, also driving in two runs and scoring a pair.
- E.J. Cumbo returned to the Spartan lineup with a 2-for-4 effort with an RBI and two runs.
- Nunez had two hits and drove in a team-high three runs. He also scored a pair of runs.
- Jorgensen came off the bench to go 2-for-4, driving in a run and scoring twice.
- Ehrhard reached base four times with two hits and two walks. He also drove in two runs and crossed home plate twice.
- Nick Long received the start for the Spartans, throwing 4.0 innings with four strikeouts.
- The UT bullpen tossed 5.0 scoreless frames with an inning apiece from Cameron Sereda, Braden Forsyth, Dalton Ross, Michael D'Emo and Drew Martin.
- Sereda was credited with the win, moving to 2-1 on the season.
- Against his former team, Martin tossed a scoreless ninth with three strikeouts.
