Tampa Baseball Set to Host NCAA South Regional 1
INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA announced the field for the 2022 Division II Baseball Tournament, selecting the University of Tampa as the top seed in the South Region and a host of the opening four-team regional.
The Spartans will welcome No. 4 Valdosta State University, No. 5 Nova Southeastern University and No. 8 Spring Hill College. Beginning Thursday, there will be two games per day on the opening day, Friday and Saturday. There could also be one game on Sunday, in the double-elimination format.
The Sunshine State Conference regular-season champions, UT enters the postseason as the No. 2 team in the nation, according to NCBWA. The Spartans concluded the regular season with a record of 40-10, including a 24-6 SSC record.
This marks the 22nd consecutive postseason appearance for Tampa, who has advanced to win five of its eight national championships since 2006. Overall, Tampa has now been selected to 36 NCAA tournaments, including one in each of current head coach Joe Urso's 22 seasons.
