CARY, NC. – The #2 University of Tampa Spartans take the round 1 victory over #7 Indianapolis to start off the college world series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- E.J. Cumbo would lead the Spartans off in Cary with a double to left center followed by an Anthony Nunez single to center to bring home Cumbo. Later in the inning, Mike Valdez would double to bring in Nunez. Bot 1 | 2-0 Tampa
- The Spartans would lead the inning off with a Nunez walk and and Stephen Klein double to have second and third with no outs. Bot 3 | 3-0 Tampa
- Nico Saladino would walk and Cumbo would drive him in with a double to left center. Bot 4 | 4-2 Tampa
- Jake Griffith would single and then come around to score on a balk. Bot 6 | 5-3 Tampa
- J.P. Gates would lift off for a 2-run shot to right field. Bot 7 | 7-3 Tampa
- Cumbo would lift off for a 2-run shot to right field. Bot 8 | 9-3 Tampa
AT THE PLATE:
- Cumbo: 4-5, 3 RBI's, & 2 R's.
- Gates: 3-4, 3 RBI's, & R.

ON THE MOUND:
- Alex Canney started on the mound. He threw 6 innings, giving up 3 runs while striking out 8. Canney has now improved to 13-3 on the season.
- Gates came in relief for Canney. He threw 2 scoreless innings while striking out 3.
- Eli Thurmond came in relief for Gates, throwing a scoreless ninth while striking out 1 batter.
