No. 1 Tampa Heads to Montevallo for their First Road Test of the Season

MONTEVALLO, AL. – The #1 University of Tampa baseball team is set to hit the road for their first away series of the 2025 season. The Spartans will take on the University of Montevallo for a three-game set starting on Friday, Feb. 7, @ 2:00 P.M.

Location: Kermit A. Johnson Field at Bob Riesener | Montevallo, AL

All-Time Series: Tampa and Montevallo have met once before this upcoming weekend in the 2006 NCAA Championship Series, winning 5-4.

Tampa (3-0)

• The Spartans open their 2025 campaign hosting a Top-15 matchup between #13 Georgia College. Tampa showed as reigning national champions, with one of the best home records in all of Division Two baseball last year (28-3), and their dominance at the birdcage by sweeping the Bobcats and outscoring them 20-9. Third Baseman Kevin Karstetter was the headline of opening night, going 4-5 in his Tampa debut, including providing a walk-off single to send the Spartans home with their first win of the season. Games two and three on the weekend were an all-around team effort. Starters C.J. Williams and Jake Stipp both threw 4 scoreless innings, Lenny Ashby had a 3-run bomb in game two, which was the deciding factor, and J.D. Urso collected a pair of multi-hit games, including two RBI doubles and a 2-run blast throughout games two and three. The Spartans will hit the road for the first away series of the season as they travel to Montevallo, Alabama, to take on the University of Montevallo.

Montevallo (3-1)

• The Falcons finished their 2024 season with a 29-23 record and 17-13 in the Gulf South Conference. The Falcons opened their 2025 campaign, hosting SSC opponent Embry-Riddle and taking two of three from the Eagles. Montevallo also faced Spring Hill College (Ala.) yesterday, beating them 7-3. The Falcons will host #1 Tampa Spartans for a three-game set this weekend, looking to play spoiler on their home field.
