No. 1 Spartans Bats Were Quiet in Loss to Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, AL. – The #1 University of Tampa Spartans drops its first game of the season to Montevallo.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• After Kevin Karstetter reached first on a throwing error by the Falcons shortstop, he came around to score on a Mike Valdez groundout. Mid 4 | 1-0 Tampa
• Santiago Garavito would leave off the inning with a double to left center.
  Nico Saladino followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Garavito to third. Jordan Williams would drive in Garavito with a sacrifice fly to center field. Mid 5 | 2-0 Tampa

AT THE PLATE:

• Jake Griffith: 1-1
• Williams: 1-2, BB, & RBI
• Garavito: 1-3

ON THE MOUND:

• Skylar Gonzalez started on the mound. He threw 5 innings while giving up 1 run and striking out 5. Gonzalez finished with a no-decision.
• Eli Thurmond came in relief for Gonzalez. He threw 3 innings while giving up 4 runs and striking out 5. Thurmond picked up his first season loss and is now 0-1.
