No. 1 Tampa Hosts Lynn in SSC Opener

TAMPA, FL. – The #1 University of Tampa baseball team hosts their SSC Opener as they take on Lynn.

Matchup: #1 Tampa vs. Lynn

Location: University of Tampa Baseball Field | Tampa, FL.

All-Time Series: Tampa and Lynn met 113 times before this upcoming weekend, with Tampa dominating with an 86-27 record; however, Lynn took two of three last time the two faced each other late in the 2024 regular season.

Tampa (7-2)

• The Spartans hosted Quincy University for a three-game series this past weekend and took two of three over the Hawks, including both wins coming in dominant shutout fashion. Tampa's pitching on Friday and Sunday held Quincy to 0 runs in each game despite giving up nine in a Saturday loss. On Friday, pre-season All-American Skylar Gonzalez showed glimpses of his 2024 historic season, throwing 6 scoreless innings, striking out 7, and picking up his first win of the season. Eli Thurmond proved he should be the number one man out of the pen as he followed Gonzalez, closing the game by throwing 3 scoreless innings, striking out 3, and picking up his first save of the season. In the rubber match on Sunday, Jake Stipp picked up right where he left off in Montevallo, Alabama. This time, tossing a gem on his home turf. Stipp threw 5 scoreless, striking out 7, and improving his record to 3-0 on the season and his ERA to 0.64. Jacob Fletcher came in relief for Stipp, throwing 2 scoreless innings, and Michael Alfonso relieved Fletcher, pitching the final 2 frames and picking up his 3^rd save on the season. The Spartan's arms look to continue their success on the mound as they take on Lynn this upcoming weekend in a three-game series to open up SSC play.

Lynn (6-5)

• The Fighting Knights opened up their 2025 season by taking on two Top-25 teams in No. 21 Mount Olive and No. 3 Catawba and dropping both games. However, Lynn has gone 6-3 since then, including winners of two straight over Georgia College this past Sunday and Georgia Southwestern State on Monday. The Knights look to continue their winning streak as they start SSC play against the pre-season picked SSC Champions No. 1 Tampa.
