No. 1 Tampa Flying to California To Take on Cal State San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, CA. – The #1 University of Tampa baseball team travels to San Marcos, California, for a spring break trip to take on Cal State San Marcos for a four-game series.

All-Time Series: This will be the first meeting between #1 Tampa and Cal State San Marcos.

• The Spartans hosted Ashland, Davenport, and Minnesota Crookston last weekend and went 4-0 against their three opponents. The Spartan's pitching staff set a new shoutout and consecutive scoreless inning record over the weekend. They held three straight shutouts against opponents, something in program history that has not been done since the start of the 1968 season. No. 1 Tampa reached 38.2 consecutive shutout innings behind the Spartan's 1-2-3 starting staff in Skylar Gonzalez, C.J. Williams, and Jake Stipp. The trio pitched a combined 20 innings, allowing no runs, striking out 25, and only walking three batters. Jacob Fletcher, Ethan Brown, Michael Alfonso, Eli Thurmond, Robert Satin, Ryan Stefiuk, and Logan Wash also recorded outs to keep the streak alive. Offensively, the Spartans outscored their three opponents 29-8 in their four games. No. 1 Tampa collected 43 hits, 21 walks, 12 extra-base hits, and 13 stolen bases across the weekend. The Spartans look to continue to dominate on both sides of the diamond as they head across the country to take on Cal State San Marcos for a four-game series.

Cal State San Marcos (7-6)

• The Cougars opened up their 2025 season with a four-game sweep over Saint Martin's before dropping a midweek matchup to Colorado School of Mines. CSSM then dropped three of four to Cal State Dominguez Hills before splitting a four-game set against Cal State LA. The Cougars look to play spoiler against their first Top-25 matchup of the season as they take on the No. 1 Tampa Spartans.
