- The Spartans traveled to San Marcos, California, this past weekend as they took on Cal State San Marcos for a four-game series over spring break. No. 1 Tampa took three of four from the Cougars. The Spartans showed this past weekend that they can be offensive juggernauts, as they displayed it out west and won in multiple ways. The Spartans outscored the Cougars in the four-game series 39-24, collected 44 hits, including 18 extra-base hits (6 home runs), stole 8 bags, and reached base safely with 22 bases on balls. J.D. Urso, Edgardo Villegas, Lenny Ashby, and Kevin Karstetter led the Spartans over the weekend at the plate. Urso homered in games two, three, and four of the series, which led to 10 RBIs for the Spartans shortstop. Ashby was 8-13 at the plate, including 3-3 in both games three and four of the series. Karstetter was 7-15 at the dish, including an opposite-field home run for his first one as a Spartan. Villegas was 5-12 at the plate, including four doubles. The Spartans look to continue their offensive production at the plate as they take on their first conference opponent of the season in Palm Beach Atlantic.
Palm Beach Atlantic (10-8)
- The Sailfish opened their 2025 campaign, dropping four straight, including losing to No. 21 Mount Olive and No. 3 Catawba. PBA quickly flipped their script, winning ten straight, including their SSC opener over Barry and sweeping conference opponent Saint Leo; however, the Sailfish are once again a part of a four-game losing streak. PBA will look to flip the script once again as they host the No. 1 team in the land in Tampa.
