No. 1 Spartans Host Nova Southeastern

TAMPA, FL. The #1 University of Tampa baseball team will continue their seven-game homestand by hosting Nova Southeastern for a three-game series.

- The No. 1 Spartans opened up last week with a mid-week victory over Saint Leo before taking one of three against No. 8 Florida Southern and beating Valdosta State yesterday. The Spartans beat St. Leo behind seven scoreless from the Tampa bullpen, seven stolen bags, and 10 hits en route to a 10-4 victory. Nico Saladino, J.D. Urso, and Mike Valdez collected multi-hit games, Jordan Williams stole four bags, and Nico Saladino, Brayden Woodburn, and Kevin Karstetter stole a base. Eli Thurmond, Ethan Brown, Jacob Fletcher, and Logan Wash all recorded scoreless frames. In the three-game set with Florida Southern, the Spartans recorded six hits in game one, thirteen in game two, and nine in game three. After dropping games one and two and getting outscored 17-11, the Spartans took the series finale, 4-3, behind Jake Stipp going 6.2 innings on the mound. He received the win in his effort, improving to 6-0 on the season. Santiago Garavito collected three hits in game three, scoring two of the Spartans four runs to pick up the victory. In yesterday's mid-week matchup with the Valdosta State Blazers, the Spartans offense collected 14 runs on 13 hits, including home runs from Jordan Williams, J.D. Urso, and Kevin Karstetter. The Spartans look to continue their contagious hitting by hosting Nova Southeastern for a three-game series.
Nova Southeastern (14-12)
- The Sharks are 14-12 on the season and 7-5 in Sunshine State Conference play. Nova Southeastern started the season strong, winning five of six, beating ranked Catawba and Delta State before dropping their first game of the season to Wingate, followed by beating Wingate and splitting a double-header with West Alabama. Then Nova Southeastern followed, losing three straight to Washburn and Georgia Southwestern State (GSSU); however, the Sharks bounced back, winning their series finale with GSSU, sweeping Eckerd, and taking two of three from Florida Tech. The Sharks were then swept by Valdosta State and Rollins before taking a mid-week matchup against Barry and taking two of three from Palm Beach Atlantic. NSU dropped a mid-week matchup yesterday to No. 8 Florida Southeastern. The Sharks look to change things around and continue their success against Top-25 opponents this season as they take on No. 1 Spartans this weekend.
