Tampa Records Blowout Victory over Palm Beach Atlantic
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team proved to be too much for Palm Beach Atlantic University as the Spartans cruised to a 76-47 victory. UT improves to 12-4 while the Sailfish drop to 2-18.
In a game where Tampa never trailed, the Spartans built a double digit advantage within seven minutes and took a 39-18 lead to halftime. UT's top two scorers, Jeremy Black and Chris Evans, each played just 16 minutes as UT used 13 players in the one-sided affair.
Despite seeing limited action, Black led Tampa with 11 points and nine rebounds while Evans added eight points. Johnathan Ball was the only other Spartan in double figures as he had 10. DeVaughn Gow led all Spartans off the bench with nine points on 4-5 shooting.
Mounir Benzegala came off the bench to lead UT in assists with seven, which also represented a new career high. Chris King led Tampa with three steals while Black had a pair of blocked shots.
While outshooting the Sailfish 50.9 to 30 percent, the Spartans also dominated the boards with a 43-30 advantage in rebounds. The Tampa frontcourt also overpowered Palm Beach Atlantic, outscoring the Sailfish 26-10 in the paint.
Tampa resumes Sunshine State Conference play on Wednesday as it travels to Boca Raton for a meeting with Lynn University. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
