Season Opener a Huge Success For Spartans
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team overpowered the University of Puerto Rico-Cayey by a final score of 107-53. The Spartans are now 1-0 on the year at UPRC drops to 0-1.
UT led throughout the entire game, by as many as 56 points with 3:56 remaining in the game. The Spartans dominated in every aspect of the game, outscoring its opponent 50-10 in the paint, 32-7 on points off turnovers and 20-2 on fastbreak points.
A total of five Tampa players scored in double figures as Johnathan Ball and Rashad Callaway each had 20-plus with 22 and 21 respectively. Fred Woods scored 11 as Rudy Jean and Marcus Morrison each chipped in 12 points off the bench. Woods also led UT with 13 rebounds.
Jean enjoyed a stellar performance from his back-up point guard position as he also had seven assists and a team-high five steals. Callaway also led Tampa with nine assists.
