Balanced Effort Leads UT To Easy Win Over Rollins
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (12-7, 5-4 SSC) men's basketball team made easy work of Rollins College (16-6, 8-3 SSC) with a strong second half to hand the Tars a 72-56 loss.
After outscoring Rollins 32-26 in the first half, UT put on a second half show while outscoring the Tars 40-30 in the final half. The Spartans led by as many as 19 points, coming on four occasions in the second half as it avenged an early season loss to Rollins in Winter Park.
Johnathan Ball led Tampa with 17 points on 7-12 shooting. Ball also led UT defensively as the reigning SSC Defensive Player of the Year had a team-high three blocks and three steals. Rashad Callaway added 11 points while Anthony LaBruno was also in double figures with 10.
Matt Tomaszewski grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds to lead Tampa as he missed out on his first career double-double by just one point. Tomaszewski accounted for all of his points on 3-pointers.
UT outshot the Tars 38.1 to 31 percent, as each team connected on eight 3-pointers. A total of 56 3-pointers were attempted in the contest, 29 by Rollins and 27 by Tampa. The Spartans also won the rebounding battle by a 47-43 mark.
The Spartans continue conference play at the Martinez Center on Wednesday when Eckerd visits in a 7:30 p.m., meeting.
