Barry Too Much For Tampa In Road Setback
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The University of Tampa (13-8, 6-5 SSC) men's basketball team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 60-53 loss to a pesky Barry University (9-14, 4-8 SSC) squad.
In a game where neither team led by more than eight points, the Buccaneers held their lead for the final 13 minutes of the game to earn the victory. With Barry leading by two and 1:55 to play, the Bucs finished the game on a 6-1 run to thwart any chance of a UT win.
Rashad Callaway led Tampa with 15 points while Anthony LaBruno added 11. Johnathan Ball added eight while freshman Marcus Morrison contributed seven off the bench while earning a bump in playing time.
Ball and Matt Tomaszewski were UT's leading rebounders with four apiece. The rebounding battle was dominated by Barry, who outrebounded the Spartans 34-22. The Bucs also shot 47.9 percent from the field while limiting Tampa to a 35.6 clip.
Tampa returns to action on Sunday against Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale. Game time is 6 p.m., in a game that was re-scheduled from Feb. 4. UT then travels to Saint Leo on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m., meeting with the Lions.
