
Scoring Outburst By Rashad Callaway Not Enough To Lead Tampa Past Saint Leo
SAINT LEO, Fla. - The University of Tampa (13-10, 6-7 SSC) men's basketball team fell by a 70-66 score in a Sunshine State Conference meeting with Saint Leo University (14-13, 7-7 SSC), despite a 30-point effort by Rashad Callaway.
Saint Leo led by a slim margin for the majority of the game, but stretched the advantage to 11 with 10:52 remaining in the contest. The Spartans responded with an 8-0 run to come within three points, but were unable to overcome the Lions in the final minutes.
Callaway led all scorers and also contributed seven rebounds and teams highs of four assists and two steals. While connecting on 10 field goals, the sophomore point guard was also 8-10 from the free-throw line.
Freshman Marcus Morrison scored a career high with 13 points off the bench for the Spartans. Morrison earned 21 minutes of playing time and also grabbed nine rebounds. Johnathan Ball led the team with 10 rebounds and three blocks shots.
Tampa returns home to host Florida Tech on Saturday at 4 p.m., as it looks to end its three game skid at the Martinez Center.
