UT Concludes Regular Season With Win

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Behind a trio of strong performances, The University of Tampa Spartans wrapped up the regular season with an 86-68 road victory over Lynn Saturday night. UT finishes the season with a 15-11 overall record while putting together an 8-8 conference record. Lynn finishes 16-11 and 7-9 in the SSC.

Tampa had three players score over 20 points as the team shot 54.7 percent from the field for the contest.

Anthony LaBruno led the Spartans with 25 points while both Rashad Callaway and Marcus Morrison both scored 22 points. The pair also recorded double-doubles as Callaway picked up 10 assists and Morrison pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Spartans built up a 49-35 lead by halftime and led comfortably through most of the second half as well. Lynn was able to close the deficit to seven points five minutes into the half, but they would not pull any closer.

UT took advantage of Lynn's 18 turnovers, scoring 21 points off of the giveaways.

UT will now travel to Barry for the quarterfinals of the 2009 Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida SSC Tournament on Wednesday. A victory would send the Spartans to the semifinals on Sat., Mar. 7 at Fort Lauderdale. The championship game is slated for Sun., Mar. 8 with the final two rounds being played at Nova Southeastern University.

The complete seeding for the tournament will be released on Sunday.
