Tampa Heads On The Road To Play SSC Rival Florida Southern
LAKELAND, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team is set to take on the no. 9 Florida Southern College in a Sunshine State Conference meeting on Wednesday at Jenkins Field House at 7:30 p.m. The Spartans (8-6, 3-3 SSC) look to snap their three game losing streak against conference rival FSC, who has a record of 14-2 and 4-2 in league play.
Tampa lost its third straight SSC contest last Saturday against Rollins pushing them to sixth in the conference with a split 3-3 record. No strangers to adversity, Tampa will attempt to upset the Mocs much like their Dec. 12 game against Valdosta State, which the Spartans won in double overtime against the no. 2 team in the nation.
The Mocs also were given a loss from Rollins in the past week, losing 91-88 and skidding from no. 2 in the NCAA Division II poll. Rollins scored the winning basket with 2.4 seconds left on the clock. The Spartans look to hand Florida Southern their second straight upset in this SSC rivalry game.
Florida Southern holds the all-time wins advantage over Tampa with a record of 65-49. The Mocs defeated UT three times last season, including an 80-59 win in the SSC tourney. FSC has taken four straight victories over UT.
