
Spartans Suffer Overtime Setback To Florida Tech
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (9-9, 3-6 SSC) men's basketball team lost its sixth consecutive Sunshine State Conference game with an 86-78 overtime loss to Florida Tech (12-8, 2-7 SSC).
The tight game featured 15 lead changes and 10 ties with UT taking a 35-34 advantage to the break. Neither team led by more than four in the second half as FT's Simon Cumming's hit the front end of a pair of free throws to send the 70-70 contest to an extra frame.
In overtime, Florida Tech scored the first six points of the half before the Spartans answered with an 8-0 run to take a 78-76 advantage. Following a technical on UT, the Panthers seized the momentum and scored the final 10 points of the game to earn the SSC triumph.
Rashad Callaway led Tampa with 30 points and also notched team-highs of five rebounds, six assists and five steals. Anthony LaBruno added 24 points.
Callum Townsend scored nine first half points, connecting on a trio of 3-pointers. Glyn Hunter also added eight points off the bench.
