
Spartans Set To Conclude The Regular Season At Home
The University of Tampa men's basketball team will hit the
hardwood for its last regular season game on Saturday for senior
day against Sunshine State Conference opponent Florida Tech. The
game will tip-off at 4 p.m. at the Bob Martinez Sports Center.
Entering the contest, the overall 20-6 Spartans seek to bounce back
after a tough loss against Florida Southern on Wednesday. The
Spartans hold the fourth spot in the SSC with a record of 9-6,
while Florida Tech (19-10) holds the fifth spot with an identical
record.
Approaching the last home game, coach Richard Schmidt's club looks
to successfully close out the regular season, as it entails
conference tournament host implications. The Spartans are led by
two seniors and a junior, all averaging double digit scoring.
Rashad Callaway leads all Spartans with 19.5 points per game and
5.8 assists. Fred Woods, who leads the club in double-doubles this
season with 6, is averaging 11.9 points per game and a total of 36
blocks. Anthony Griffis boasts an impressive 16.2 points per game
this season.
Florida Tech is led by senior Justin Sedlak who is averaging 20.2
points per game. The Panthers are coming off a 77-66 victory
against first ranked SSC opponent, Rollins.
The Spartans lead the all time series against the Panthers 43-18.
However, the Panthers handed the Spartans their second loss of the
season with an 81-61 victory on Jan. 26 in Melbourne.
Tickets will be available at the gate for $5 (adults) and $3
(senior citizens and students). UT students and faculty/staff are
admitted free with a valid UT identification card.
