Barry Shocks #16 Tampa At Home
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 16 University of Tampa (17-3, 6-3 SSC) men's basketball team fell by a 59-52 score against Sunshine State Conference opponent Barry University (6-12, 3-6 SSC), suffering its third loss in four games.
After leading by a 35-32 score at the half, Tampa was held to just 17 second half points as the Buccaneers defense held UT to a 13.8 percent field goal clip in the final half to earn the SSC upset.
The Spartans trailed by just three points inside a minute to play, but had its comeback hoped dashed as the Bucs were 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the final 39-seconds of play.
Anthony Griffis led Tampa's scoring effort with 13 points as Rashad Callaway and Ashton Graham each added 10 points. Fred Woods grabbed a team-high nine rebounds as Callaway held team honors with three assists and two steals.
The Buccaneers also won the battle of the boards as it outrebounded the Spartans 39-29. Tampa, which hit 31.8 percent of its 3-pointers, was hindered as it connected on just 1-of-9 long range shots in the second half.
Tampa faces a tough task in its next game, as it travels to Rollins College to meet the SSC's top team in the Tars. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Winter Park, Fla. Live stats will be available through www.tampaspartans.com.
