
No. 22 Spartans Set to Welcome Shaw to Martinez Center
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 22 University of Tampa men's basketball team will host Shaw University (N.C.) for a Thursday evening matchup at the Martinez Center. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m.
Shaw expects to provide a stiff test for the nationally-ranked Spartans as the Bears are 4-2 on the season and winners of four of their last five contests. Shaw also brings size, carrying four players listed at 6-foot-7-inches-and-higher.
Senior Karron Johnson leads the Bears as he is averaging a team-leading 22.5 points per game. Latrail McCoy is also scoring in double figures, at 12.2 per game. Johnson also leads the team in rebounds as the Richmond, Va., native e averages a double-double with 10.5 rebounds per contest.
The Spartan offense has been led by the duo of Da'Markco Foster and Anthony Griffis as the pair is averaging 19.8 and 13.8 points per game respectively. Vincent Cornu leads all Spartans on the boards with 6.0 rebounds per game.
Tampa, who will be playing for the first time since Dec. 1, last defeated Armstrong Atlantic State University at the Saint Leo Classic by a score of 83-82. Following the Shaw contest, UT will travel to Puerto Rico for a trio of games against NCAA South Region opponents.
Tickets are available at the gate for $5. Children 12-and-under will be admitted free. UT faculty, staff and students are admitted free when displaying a valid Spartan ID card.
