
Late Comeback Bid Not Enough as Lynn Tops Spartans
BOCA RATON, Fla. - The No. 20 University of Tampa (12-3, 0-3 SSC) men's basketball team suffered its third straight Sunshine State Conference loss in a 76-60 setback to Lynn University (9-4, 2-2 SSC) on Saturday.
The Spartans trailed 38-20 at the half and cut the Lynn lead to four points with just over 10 minutes to play in the second half. The Fighting Knights responded with a 9-0 run to regain its comfortable advantage.
Anthony Griffis led all Spartans with 19 points, also connecting on 8-of-8 free throws. Da'Markco Foster added 13 points as the other three UT starters combined for just two points.
Vincent Cornu came off the bench to grab a team-leading 11 rebounds as he also netted nine points. Terrell Pritchett added nine points and a team-high five assists off the bench as Eric Moraes also contributed eight points off the bench for Richard Schmidt's squad.
Tampa, which shot 38.6 percent from the field, was hindered by a 17.6 clip from 3-point range as the Spartans also shot just 56.5 from the free throw line. UT was also outrebounded 43-36 in the game.
Tampa will attempt to get back on track as it returns home to the Martinez Center to face Saint Leo University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
