Barry Gets Best of Tampa in SSC Contest
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (16-11, 3-11 SSC) men's basketball team suffered a 63-54 loss to visiting Barry University (12-12, 5-9 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference affair.
In the first half, Barry enjoyed a late surge as it turned a 16-16 tie with 6:55 until break into a 27-19 halftime advantage.
The Buccaneers would lead by as many as 11 points in the second half, though the Spartans would not go away easily. UT would cut the Buccaneer advantage to five points with 28 seconds to play, though the Bucs would finish on a 9-3 run.
Anthony Griffis paced Tampa with 19 points as Da'Markco Foster added 13 while freshman Austin Rettig contributed 10. Stefon Barfield added seven rebounds for Tampa.
Tampa returns to action on Wednesday for senior day as it hosts SSC rival and nationally-ranked Florida Southern at 7:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available through TampaSpartans.tv.
