Spartans Out Fire
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (1-0) men's basketball team defeated Southeastern University (2-1) on opening night 78-65 at the Bob Martinez Center.
The Spartans started off the contest with strong offensive sets and a will to rebound. The squad shot 47 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3 point range. The tempo and control of the game belonged to the home team, as they led by as many as 18 points.
Vincent Cornu led the way with 13 points to end the half, while Jordan Davis registered seven assists.
Da'Markco Foster hit a deep shot from 3 point range to start the second period, allowing the Spartans to maintain momentum. The Fire got within nine points of the double digit difference, but, could not solidify a consistent scoring run.
Three Spartans scored in double figures, including a double-double performance by Davis who had 13 points and 10 assists. Cornu finished with 15 points, while Foster recorded 12 points.
Tampa will take on American International this Friday at home in a string of three straight home games. The Spartans lead the all-time series 2-0 against the yellow jackets.
Tickets are available at the gate for $5. Children 12-and-under will be admitted free. UT faculty, staff and students are admitted free when displaying a valid Spartan ID card.
