Lakers Slip Past Spartans
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's basketball team fell 65-60 to the Clayton State Lakers Sunday evening at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
The Spartans came out shooting well from three-point range early on. The home team forced a couple turnovers and converted them into easy baskets. Everything was going well for Tampa until Clayton State went on a 20-3 run in the final nine minutes of the first period.
Jordan Davis and Da'Markco Foster ended the half with eight and nine points respectively.
The Spartans managed to shrink the opponents' lead to a single digit deficit with 15 minutes left in the game. With a minute left to go, Foster took the advantage of a three point play to bring his squad within three points. Despite Tampa's late run, Clayton State converted at the free throw line to pull away from the Spartans.
Foster and Davis led their team with 23 and 15 points. Eric Moraes also chipped in 10 points.
Next up the Spartans will host Palm Beach Atlantic Saturday for a 4 p.m. contest. Spartans lead the all-time series 16-1.
