Spartans Undefeated at Eckerd Tournament
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The University of Tampa (5-1) men's basketball team completed its final day of the Eckerd College Thanksgiving Classic with a 73-66 win against Puerto Rico-Bayamon.
The lead alternated between both teams throughout the first stint of play. The Spartans were down at the half by one point, as a result of not having an answer for Puerto Rico's 57 percent shooting from the field. Jordan Davis and Vincent Cornu finished the half with 15 and 13 points respectively.
Tampa scored the first basket of the second half and went on several scoring sprees from there, impeding their opponent's efforts to lead at any point. Second chance points was the name of the game for the Spartans as well as persistence in crashing the boards for 41 rebounds.
Davis finished the game with 21 points, while Eric Moraes chipped in 13 points and six rebounds. Cornu registered a double-double notching 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Spartans will take on Sunshine State Conference opponent Barry University next Saturday on the road. Tampa leads the all-time series 39-20.
