Rettig Leads Tampa Over Bayamon
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The University of Tampa (3-3) bounced back from a loss yesterday to defeat the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon (0-2) by a final score of 88-63.
As a team, UT shot 50.9 percent (29-57) from the field, and 50 percent (9-18) from the three point line. Tampa's defense was tough, as they only allowed Puerto Rico-Bayamon to shoot 37.5 percent (24-64) from the field. Bayamon was also held to 3.8 percent (5-21) from beyond the arc.
Sophomore Austin Rettig lead the way for the Spartans as he put up a career high 22 points. Rettig shot 8-10 from the field, including 4-5 from three point land. Senior Eugene McCrory and freshmen Marcel Robinson added 11 points a piece for Tampa. Senior Jordan Davis led the way with six assists on the day.
Tampa will be back in action on Saturday, as they travel down to Fort Lauderdale to open up conference play against Nova Southeastern, the game is scheduled to start at 4:00 PM.
