Spartans Drop Heart-Breaker to Moccasins
TAMPA, Fla. - In front of a fan-filled Bob Martinez Athletics Center, The University of Tampa men's basketball team succumbed to a narrow defeat to No. 3 Florida Southern on Wednesday night, 81-75.
The Spartans drop to 3-3 in the Sunshine State Conference and 10-6 overall, while the Moccasins improve their record to 5-1, 16-1 overall.
Tampa's Othniel Shelton recorded his first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Eugene McCrory topped the Spartan's offense with 22 points. Austin Rettig aided the 75-point offense posting 16 on the board.
Kevin Capers led the Moccasins to their victory with 35 points and seven rebounds. Dylan Travis added 18 points to bring Florida Southern to their 81-point total.
Shelton and McCrory tallied 14 points apiece as the Spartans led at the end of the first half, 39-37. Rettig took off in the second half recording 13 points.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday at Rollins in Winter Park, Florida at 4 p.m.
