
Tampa Loses Shootout With Barry
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Three Tampa players scored 20 points, but it was not enough as the University of Tampa Spartans fell 99-93 to the No. 4 ranked Barry Buccaneers.
UT now drops to 11-7 on the year and 4-4 in SSC play, while Barry improves to 16-1, and remains perfect in SSC play at 8-0.
Seniors Jordan Davis and Eugene McCrory each added 26 points to Tampa, while Sophomore Austin Rettig added 24 points.
Davis scored his 26 points on 8-18 shooting, while being 5-12 from beyond the arc. McCrory shot 10-15 from the field, and was 6-7 from the free-throw line. Rettig scored his 24 points behind a 9-16 shooting effort, including 6-10 from three.
McCrory also added a game high 13 rebounds to collect a double-double.
Sophomore Matt Johnson recorded a game high eight assists for the Spartans.
Barry was led by three-time conference player of the week Yunio Barrueta, who racked up 25 points.
The contest was offensive heavy, as both teams shot above 50% from the field.
The Spartans will be home on Saturday, as they host the Nova Southeastern Sharks at 4:00 PM
