Eugene McCrory Recipient of First SSC Player of the Week Honor
MELBOURNE, Fla. - University of Tampa senior, Eugene McCrory earns his first SSC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor of 2014-15.
McCrory was selected SSC Player of the Week from a pool of nominees for his performance during the week of February 23 to March 1 and will be nominated for USBWA National Player of the Week honors.
The 6-8 center from Washington D.C. scored 18 point and pulled down eight boards on the road against No. 1 Florida Southern. McCrory showed efficiency against the Moccasins going 7-8 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.
McCrory and the Spartans then hosted No. 9 Barry for their senior night. In his final home game, McCrory was able to post 18 points and 15 rebounds (career high) as Tampa went on to beat Barry, 73-68. He played 39 of the 40 total minutes in the win that allowed the Spartans to jump to the three seed for the SSC tournament.
In the two games vs. top-10 ranked teams, McCrory averaged 18.0 points and 11.5 rebounds while shooting 15-25 (60 percent) from the field. He also average 32.5 minutes per game in Tampa's final two regular season games.
