Spartans Fall Behind Second Half Surge By Sailfish
The Tampa men's basketball team dropped a mid-week contest to Palm Beach Atlantic by a score of 78-69.
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Tampa Spartans hit the road Wednesday night to take on the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish for a mid-week contest. UT fell just short dropping the game 69-78
Offensively, the Spartans showed up big time shooting 54.7% from the field as a team: however, UT shot a less than impressive 10% from behind the arc. Big man Duke Shelton had a double-double as he registered 23 points and 13 rebounds. Also tallying double figures was forward Austin Rettig with 11 and guard Pat Bacon, who had 18 and was an assist short of a double-double.
Defensively, Tampa won the battle on the boards 34 to 32 but managed just six offensive rebounds that ultimately led to being the difference maker, as they allowed Palm Beach Atlantic to pull in 12 offensive boards which led to nine second-chance points. Another critical factor in the matchup was points off turnovers as the Sailfish notched 19 points of turnovers to the Spartans ten.
Following the loss, UT skids to 4-11 on the campaign and still winless on the road this season. The defeat also extends the team's loss streak to four games.
The Spartans returns to action Saturday as they return home to the Bob Martinez Center to face off against the Saint Leo Lions, tip-off is set for 4 PM ET.
