
UT Basketball Set to Entertain Nova Southeastern
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's teams will face off against Nova Southeastern University on Wednesday night in the Bob Martinez Athletics Center. Both teams are coming off SSC victories over Saint Leo.
The women kick off the doubleheader at 5:30 against the 10th ranked Sharks. Nova has won two of the past three conference titles, with Tampa winning the other. UT sports a 9-8 overall record and sits at 3-4 in the SSC. The Spartans come into the contest with a three-game conference winning streak. The Sharks enter the game at 15-1 overall and 7-0 in SSC play.
UT is averaging 64 points per game, as Juliana Cavallaro leads the way with 13.9 points per game. She also ranks second on the team with 5.6 boards per game. Elena de Alfredo also averages double figures, as she scores 12.7 points per game.
Angela Alvarez leads Tampa on the boards, as the senior is pulling down 6.4 rebounds per game.
Last season Nova won the season series 2-1, as each team picked up a road victory, and NSU won their meeting in the SSC tournament.
The men conclude the SSC doubleheader at 7:30 against the Sharks. UT sits at 5-11 overall and 1-6 in SSC play. The Spartans picked up their first conference win of the year against Saint Leo, as they defeated the Lions 86-71. NSU enters the game at 6-9 overall and 2-5 in the SSC.
Pat Bacon leads the charge for Tampa, as the freshman guard has 21.3 points per game, and is second on the team with 4.1 assists per game. Austin Rettig and Marcel Robinson are also averaging double figures as they are scoring 15.1 and 10.3 points per game respectively.
Duke Shelton leads the team on the glass, as the big man is averaging 6.2 rebounds per game. Shelton is also the reigning SSC Defensive Player of the Week, as he recorded back to back double-doubles. Against Palm Beach Atlantic he scored 23 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Against Saint Leo Shelton scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
