Tampa Welcomes Two Competitors in Doubleheader
The University of Tampa men's and women's basketball teams will welcome two different competitors in a mid-week doubleheader. The women will play the Gyrenes at 5:30 pm and the men will battle the Mountain Lions at 7:30 pm.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's and women's basketball teams will host two competitors Tuesday evening. The women will play Ave Maria University at 5:30 pm and the men will play Young Harris College at 7:30 pm.

Last Time Out (Men's): The Spartans feasted on the Sharks to capture their first conference win 98-78. Tampa found its rhythm early and never looked back. In the first half alone the Spartans connected on 11 three pointers. Marcel Robinson had a stellar night as he established a new career high in points with 26, breaking his previous record of 24. He also contributed six rebounds and was 8-17 from the field. Junior Grant Bryant and senior Austin Rettig also put up impressive numbers tallying 18 and 17 points, respectively. Tampa shot 53.7 percent from the field while its competitor came in at 46.6 percent. The Spartans ended the night connecting on 15 three pointers which was just shy of the school record for made three pointers in a game.
Last Time Out (Women's): The Spartans battled a tough Nova Southeastern team but fell short of a victory. Tampa started out hot as they went into the second quarter leading by six. But the Sharks started to apply pressure and eventually took the lead. Both teams were defensively sound as both teams remained scoreless for a portion of the second quarter. The Spartans and the Sharks rallied back and fourth heading into the last quarter tied at 43. But late points from Nova would solidify their win 58-52. Junior Faith Sanders put up 15 points, three rebounds and went 7-12 from the field. Senior Elena deAlfredo and junior Karma Jeremie both contributed 13, making this the third consecutive game deAlfredo has scored in double figures.
About the Spartans (Men's): UT is led offensively by junior Robinson, tallying 14 points per game. He is followed by junior Duke Shelton and Rettig with 12 and 11.3 respectively. Shelton sits in second place in the SSC for rebounds with 8.8 per game and in second place for blocked shots with 2.3 per game. As a team, the Spartans are second in conference for rebounds with 161 and second in conference for blocked shots averaging four per game.
About the Spartans (Women's): The Spartans are led offensively by Junior Sanders who is second in the SSC for points per game with 15. She is closely followed by senior deAlfredo and Jeremie with 13.3 and 10.7, respectively. As a team, the Spartans are averaging 59 points per game and have a 44.7 field goal percentage.
About the Mountain Lions (Men's): C.J. Wilson and Ben Waterhouse lead the Mountain Lions offensively averaging 20.5 and 16.5 points per game, respectively. As a team, Young Harris is shooting 51.5 percent from the field and collecting 35.8 rebounds per game.The Mountain Lions are averaging 6.3 steals per game and 3.3 blocks per game.
About the Gyrenes (Women's): Junior Lauren Gillingham leads the Gyrenes with 77 points averaging 15.4 points per game. Junior Jasmie Bateman is the second leading point scorer for Ave Maria with 68 points and 13.6 per game. As a team, the Gyrenes are averaging 42.4 rebounds per game and shooting 38.6 percent from the field.
Series History (Men's): This is the first competition between Tampa and Young Harris, the record sits at 0-0.
Series History (Women's): The Spartans lead the all-time series record over the Gyrenes with a perfect 3-0 record.
Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
