Spartans Welcome Tars for Saturday Matchup

The University of Tampa men's basketball team will host the Rollins College Tars on Saturday at 4 pm.

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's basketball team will host the Rollins College Tars Saturday, February 3rd. The men will compete at 4 pm following the women's matchup at 2 pm.   

The Matchup: University of Tampa (7-13, 3-11 SSC) vs. Rollins College (14-8, 10-4 SSC) 

Date/Time: Saturday, February 3rd at 4 pm.

Location: Bob Martinez Athletics Center | Tampa, Fla.

Last Time Out: The Spartans hosted the Saint Leo Lions and were defeated, 58-53. Pat Bacon led the Spartans in scoring with 19 points. Duke Shelton led the defense with 20 rebounds and four blocks, in addition to the 18 points he contributed on offense. Marcel Robinson came in second in total rebounds with eight.

About the Spartans: Bacon leads Tampa offensively, tallying 20.4 points per game. He is followed by senior Marcel Robinson and Duke Shelton with 15 and 14 points per game, respectively. As a team, the Spartans average 77.9 points per game and have a 46.2 field goal percentage.

About the Tars: The Tars are led offensively by Sam Philpott who leads the team will 435 points averaging 19.8 per game. Jeff Merton is the second leading point scorer for the Tars with 15.4 points per game. As a team, Rollins is shooting 50.4 percent from the field and collecting 32.4 rebounds per game.   

Series History (Men's): The Spartans lead the all-time series record with the Tars with a 64-36 record.

Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
