
Spartans Upset Bucs On the Road
The University of Tampa men's basketball team traveled to Miami to take on top-ranked Barry University and defeated them 78-72.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | Marcel Robinson started the game with a layup, giving the Spartans their first points of the game. The Bucs wasted no time getting on the board after making a three pointer to record their first points. The Bucs and the Spartans traded points for a few minutes of play until the Bucs took off on an offensive run that put them up by as many as eight points with nine minutes left to play in the half. The Spartans did not give up as they fought back to close the gap to one point before Robinson hit a three pointer that would give the Spartans the lead. Heading into halftime the Bucs led 34-27. Robinson was the leading point scorer of the first half with 16 points.
2nd Half | Anthony Gamble scored the first four points of the half after making consecutive layups to make the score 34-31, Bucs. After trading leads for the majority of the second half the game became very close, as the Bucs and the Spartans were tied at 67-67 with 1:48 left on the game clock. After a made jump shot from Robinson and two free throws from Pat Bacon, the Spartans were up by four with just over a minute left on the clock. As the clock wound down, the Spartans maintained a lead that would eventually carry them to their 78-72 victory.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Robinson tied his career high in points in a game with 35.
- Duke Shelton was the second leading point scorer with 15 points.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- Shelton recorded his 13th double-double of the season.
- The Spartans conclude their season with a final record of 10-16, 6-14 Sunshine State Conference.
