Second Half Surge Allows Barry to Roll Past Spartans

TAMPA, Fla. The University of Tampa Spartans squared off against the Barry University Buccaneers in the final Saturday home game of the season. The Bucs used a strong second half and defeated the Spartans by a final score of 76-63. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Final: Tampa 63, Barry 76

Records: University of Tampa Spartans (7-19, 4-14 SSC), Barry Buccaneers (18-7, 12-6 SSC)

All-time Series: The Spartans still hold a 44-31 series lead over Barry. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

1st Half | The two teams played a tightly contested first half as the biggest lead either team had was eight by the Bucs. The two teams were within four points for the majority of the half, but the Bucs ended up by six at the break. Pat Bacon led the way in the half with his 10 points. Brent Duncan pulled in six rebounds in the opening 20 minutes. || Barry 35-Tampa 29

2nd Half | In the second half the Spartans were able to pull within four points with 10:57 left to play in the half. Over the next three minutes, BU was able to pull away from the Spartans leading by 11 points. The Bucs would not allow the Spartans to pull any closer as they would close the game out with a 13 point victory. 

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Pat Bacon led Tampa in scoring as he finished with 26 points, four rebounds, and four assists. 

• Brent Duncan finished the game with a double-double as he had 16 points and 11 rebounds. 

• Derrick Felder led the way with five assists. 

UP NEXT: Tampa is back in action on Wednesday for senior night as they host the Florida Southern Mocs.
