Max Jones Named SSC Player of the Week
MELBOURNE, Fla. - University of Tampa men's basketball player Max Jones was honored as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week for his performances against Saint Leo.
Jones, a freshman from Clearwater, is awarded Player of the Week honors after leading all scorers in two contests against Saint Leo University last week. He opened his collegiate career on the road with a game-high 23 points, connecting on 3-of-9 three-pointers while also grabbing six rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.
The Clearwater, Fla., native netted 22 points in his home debut while also tallying two assists and a team-high four steals. Jones scored his 45 points by shooting 52% from the field (17-33), 31% from behind the arc (5-16), and 86% from the free-throw line (6-7). Jones played 76 minutes for the Spartans, where he totaled seven rebounds, six steals, four assists, and a blocked shot.
Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of February 15 to 21, 2021. Athletes are nominated by Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions.
