SSC Player of Week Honor Presented to Max Jones
MELBOURNE, Fla. - After leading the University of Tampa men's basketball team to a pair of victories last week, the Sunshine State Conference has announced Max Jones as its Offensive Player of the Week.
Jones is awarded Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Spartans in a pair of SSC wins last week. The guard from Clearwater, Florida, open the week with a 30-point / 10-rebound double-double against Rollins. Jones led all scorers as the Spartans bested the Tars, 86-77, at home. The freshman then scored a game-high 38 points and pulled down six rebounds as the Spartans posted a 104-98 overtime win at No. 17 Barry. Jones totaled 68 points by shooting 55% from the field (24-44), 82% from the free-throw line (14-17), and 35% from behind the arc (6-17). He averaged 34.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists while playing a total of 76 minutes. The weekly award is the third of his career.
Sunshine State Conference Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of January 10 - 16, 2022. Athletic Communication Directors of member institutions nominate athletes.
