Tampa Can't Overcome the Quick Start from Rollins

Tampa, FL. – The University of Tampa Spartans Men's Basketball can't come back from Rollins's quick start.

Final: Rollins Tars 75, Tampa Spartans 60

Records: Tampa (7-12, 6-7 SSC), Rollins (11-10, 7-6 SSC)

Location: Warden Arena || Winter Park, Fl. 

All-Time Series: Rollins cuts Tampa's all-time series lead down to 69-31.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

FIRST HALF 

The Tars came out of the gates early, making five of their first six shots and going on an 11-0 run to start the game. After a bucket by Mykah Brown to create the Spartan's scoring and some back-and-forth buckets, the Spartans cut the Tar's lead to 8. The Tars expanded their lead to 10; however, Brown changed that with back-to-back threes to cut the lead to 4 with 9 minutes remaining in half. With a little under 4 minutes remaining in half, the Tars increased their lead to 8 and followed it up with a 9-0 run to close out the half. | Score: 37-21 Rollins

SECOND HALF 

The Tar's lead stayed similar throughout the first seven minutes of play in the second half. Their most significant lead became 19; however, Jonathan Bryant II cut it to 12 with a 7-0 run by himself. After cutting the lead to 11, the Tars hit four straight shots to lead by 20. The Spartans did all they could to return but ran out of time. | Score: 75-60 Rollins

INSIDE THE STATS 

• Two Spartans scored double figures: Senior Mykah Brown (21), and Senior Jonathan Bryant II (15),
• The Spartans had 43 rebounds compared to the Tars' 36.
• Tyson Leitao was shy of a double-double with 9 points and 13 rebounds.

BEYOND THE BOX

• The Spartans shot better from the free-throw line and behind the arc than the Tars.
• Tampa had 17 turnovers compared to Rollins's 6.
• The Tars have led since the first minute of the game.
