Tampa SSC Tournament Chances are Shrinking

SSC Teams with National Rankings: #1 Nova Southeastern

Tampa Spartan's Men's Basketball: (7-15, 6-10 SSC), Tied for 8th in the SSC

Tampa

  • The Spartans have been struggling, losing nine of their last eleven games, and currently on a 4-game losing streak. Tampa lost to both of their biggest rivals in Saint Leo and Florida Southern this past week. Despite their struggles, the Spartans still have something to play for this week. They are tied for 8th in the SSC with a 6-10 record in conference play, along with Barry and Eckerd. They will travel to St. Petersburg on Wednesday to take on Eckerd for the 8th seed. However, they will host the #1 team in the land on Saturday, the Nova Southeastern Sharks, who are 23-0 and rolling all over their competition.

Eckerd

  • The Tritons have lost 3 straight. This past week they lost to Florida Tech and Barry. Due to their loss to the Buccaneers, they sit tied for 8th in the SSC with Tampa and Barry who all have a 6-10 record in conference play. They can make a tremendous jump this week in the conference standings if they beat Rollins and Tampa, which would set them up for a higher seed in the SSC tournament.

Nova Southeastern

  • The Sharks are finally ranked #1 in the country for the first time this season. Nova Southeastern has won 23 straight, including 16 conference games. They beat Florida Tech and Saint Leo this past week by a combined 47 points. Their next 3 games will be against all 3 teams that are currently tied for 8th in the SSC. The Sharks will host Barry on Wednesday and then travel to Tampa on Saturday. In the final week of the regular season action, they will travel to St. Petersburg to face off against Eckerd and host Embry-Riddle in their last regular season game.
