Tampa Struggles Shooting in Loss to Barry

Tampa, FL. – The University of Tampa Spartans Men's Basketball Team fall to Barry due to second-half shooting struggles.

Final: Barry Buccaneers 67, Tampa Spartans 54

Records: Tampa (8-17, 7-12 SSC), Barry Buccaneers (12-12, 8-11 SSC)

Location: Health & Sports Center || Miami Shores, Fl. 

All-Time Series: Despite Tampa's all-time 46-33 series lead, the Buccaneers came out on top today.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

FIRST HALF 

The Buccaneers came out of the gate shooting the ball well early, making six of their first ten shots and taking a 15-7 lead early. The Spartans would respond with a De'Andre Harvey 3-pointer and a Mykah Brown layup to cut their deficit to three. After some back-and-forth hoops and Barry extending their lead to five, Tampa went on an 11-0 run with five different scorers to take a 25-19 lead. After back-to-back threes by each team, the Buccaneers would score eight straight to take a 30-28 lead. Tampa would eventually cut Barry's lead to one going into the half. | Score: 33-32 Barry

SECOND HALF 

After the Buccaneers scored the first five points of the half, De'Andre Harvey made a 3-pointer to cut Barry's lead to 3. The lead changed quickly due to Barry going on a 16-5 run with ten minutes left in the game and controlling a 14-point lead. They would eventually get their lead up to 17. The Spartans didn't have a chance with their sloppy play and shooting struggles and ultimately came up short. | Score: 67-54 Barry

INSIDE THE STATS 

• Two Spartans scored double figures: Senior Mykah Brown (14), and Sophomore Tyson Leitao (11).
• The Spartans shot 91% from the line compared to the Buccaneer's 57%.
• Leitao recorded another double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

BEYOND THE BOX

• The Spartans had 0-second chance points.
• Only 3 ties and 2 lead changes throughout the game.
• Tampa shot only 32% from the field and had 11 turnovers in the second half.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will host their final regular season game of the year as Florida Tech comes into town on Saturday to face the Spartans at 4:00 PM on Senior Day.
