Tampa Improves to 4-0 After Defeating Puerto Rico-Mayaguez

Tampa, Fla – The University of Tampa Men's Basketball team took the floor tonight to face Puerto Rico-Mayaguez.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

FIRST HALF: Tampa came out strong in the first half, winning the tip-off and immediately capitalizing with efficient scoring in the paint. Tyson Leitao led the charge with key rebounds and multiple second-chance points, while Trey Lane facilitated the offense with consistent assists. Tampa dominated in transition, with Amarion Nimmers and Bryan Williams converting turnovers into fast-break layups. Kaden Froebe and De'Andre Harvey added crucial three-pointers to extend the lead, showcasing Tampa's perimeter shooting. The team's defense was relentless, forcing P.R.-Mayaguez into numerous turnovers and capitalizing with quick scoring runs. Tampa closed the half on a high note, with Nimmers sealing the half with back-to-back layups, giving them a commanding 28-point lead at the break.

SECOND HALF: Tampa controlled the second half with consistent scoring and defensive dominance, starting with Froebe and Leitao leading the offense with free throws and second-chance points. Williams and Zach Johnson contributed heavily from beyond the arc, sinking multiple three-pointers to maintain a commanding lead. Tampa capitalized on P.R.-Mayaguez turnovers, with Isaiah Young and Grady Schwartz orchestrating fast-break opportunities and assisting teammates effectively. Tampa's bench showcased depth as players like
Kyler Lamb and Jaxon Toney made significant contributions in the paint and transition. Defensively, Tampa dominated the boards, with Leitao and Williams leading the rebound count while blocking crucial P.R.-Mayaguez attempts. By the final minutes, Tampa had extended their lead to an overwhelming 53 points, sealing a dominant performance.
